From face painting to a mini Main Street, the sixth annual Relay for Life this Friday, June 12, has both old and new events planned to support the American Cancer Society and occupy the more than 1,000 participants expected.

Sponsors hope to raise more than $100,000.

“I’m excited because we have a lot of new volunteers that have come up with a lot of creative ways to keep Relay alive,” said Josephine Mineo, event chair.

Kids Care, a new idea, will be oriented to the younger set. An entry-level relay, the event will have face painting and relay races.

For those wishing to do some shopping while supporting the community and the American Cancer Society, the mini Main Street will be set up.

“There’ll be an eclectic assortment of offerings including Craig’s Fine Jewelry featuring “a Cure in our Lifetime” pendant, deliciously fresh and hot pizzas and subs from Piccolo Pizza, eco-friendly handbags and funky fun jewelry from Om and Silpada,” said Rob Ellis, corporate sponsorship chairperson.
